The new General Data Protection Regulation comes into force May 2018. The purpose of the new law is to provide a set of standardised data protection laws across all European countries. This update to European law covers the capture, control and consent for the use of personal information. It applies to any company operating in Europe, even if their headquarters are elsewhere. The UK has committed to comply and be bound by these regulations even after we have departed the European Union.
With the impending changes to the GDPR, businesses of all sizes need to address their processes for handling data.
Many companies still hold onto hard copy files which, under the new law could leave them exposed to a potential data breach.
